Seventh and eighth grade students may elect to
take
one quarter of French per year. Using an exploratory format, students
are exposed to the basics of the French language as well as introduced to
various aspects of the French culture. Writing original dialogues
based on specific dialogue patterns, students learn to express themselves in
everyday situations. This year students have participated in such
projects as designing their dream home, choosing furniture and decorating
rooms, and finally writing paragraphs about the home of their dreams (all in
French, of course). Cultural experiences have included preparing crêpes
and other French dishes, playing Mille Bornes and boules, and viewing
L'Histoire des Jouets II (Toy Story II). St. Mary on the Hill
School also participates with Aquinas High School in the winter quarter
exchange program with St. Denis. Seventh and eighth grade level French
students live with host families and attend classes with their host
students. This offers a wonderful opportunity for students to
experience first hand cultural exchanges as American and French students
work together to accomplish various assigned projects. |
